1. Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving

This book is written by Dave Pilkey and follows the same familiar rhyme as Twas the Night Before Christmas. It is about a class that goes on a field trip to a turkey farm. While they are there, the children fall in love with the turkeys and try to figure out a way to save the turkeys from becoming Thanksgiving dinner. It's a great book that introduces children to the idea of where Thanksgiving turkeys come from without being too graphic. Reviews have indicated that it is a great book for vegetarian families, but we believe it is a cute story that all can enjoy!

2. Turkey Trouble

This book is written by Wendi Silvano and is about a turkey who realizes he is about to become Thanksgiving dinner! He decides to disguise himself as other farm animals to trick the farmer and keep himself from becoming the main course of their Thanksgiving feast! We love using this book in speech therapy and having our students decorate turkeys with their favorite disguises!

3. There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Turkey!

This book is written by Lucille Colandro and follows the same format as There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly. It's a fun book and is great for working on sequencing, cause and effect, and rhyming. It's also engaging because of the repetition! This book will keep kids laughing from beginning to end!

4. The Thank You Book (An Elephant and Piggie Book)

The Thank You Book is the 25th book of the famous Elephant and Piggie Book series by Mo Willems. Piggie and Gerald are best friends! In this book, Piggie decides that he wants to thank EVERYONE, but Gerald is worried that he is going to forget someone important. The Thank you Book is a sweet and funny story that can help kids identify all the little things they can be thankful for! The Elephant and Piggie books are great for beginning readers and excellent for practicing inflection and expression while reading!

5. The Thankful Book

The Thankful Book, by Todd Parr, promotes diversity in a way that is easy for children to understand. We love his simple pictures and sweet messages in each of his books. The Thankful Book includes a lot of things little kids can be thankful for, from bubble baths to family time! What a nice way to start the Thanksgiving season and teach children to have a thankful heart! It also has a board book version for even younger children!
